NH AG identifies man shot dead in Stoddard, investigating if shooting was self-defense

STODDARD — The New Hampshire Attorney General identified the man shot to death in Stoddard, and are investigating if the shooting was in self-defense.

New Hampshire State Police responded to a residence on Moose Brook Drive in Stoddard Thursday at about 7:30 p.m.

According to town assessing records, the home is owned by Nicole Carney.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered Michael Carney, 44 of Sullivan, dead in the home.

There were also two other people in the home, an adult female and a young child, both of whom were uninjured, NH AG said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Carney and determined that his cause of death was two gunshot wounds. The manner of death is a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing and includes whether the person who shot Carney acted in self-defense, NH AG said.
