NH 4th graders most proficient in science within US

CONCORD — The Granite State has the highest percentage of fourth-grade students in the nation who are proficient in science, according to results of the 2015 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP).

Fifty one percent of fourth-grade students in New Hampshire were considered proficient in science.

New Hampshire students saw the average scale score and the at-or-above proficient score improve in 2015 compared to the previous NAEP assessments in 2011 and 2009, the Union Leader reported.

Students with disabilities also scored well in nationwide rankings.

The NAEP is conducted at the both the state and the national level. In New Hampshire, approximately 2,200 Grade 4 students and 2,300 Grade 8 students were assessed.
