NFL star swings into baseball for a night in Nashua

NASHUA - In sport statistics, he's one of the best kickers in the National Football League. But on Saturday evening, New England Patriots star Stephen Gostkowski traded in the pigskin to test out a bat and gloves on the diamond at Holman Stadium.

"Bring a little football into baseball and see what I got," Gostkowski said.

The NFL star, #3 on the field when he plays for the Pats, warmed up with the team as fans waited for their chance to get their football kicking tees signed. Others grabbed a quick selfie.

"It means a lot" said fan Danny Darkrill on having the star athlete in Nashua. "Gostkowski is a very good kicker."

The stands filled up with hundreds of attendees, many who switched their jerseys from one sport to another.

"I think it's great for the Nashua Silver Knights to get a figure out here like Stephen Gostkowski," said Silver Knights outfielder Jimmy Hand. "Bring the fans out, really get us some exposure to the town. Have everybody come out and support us, and I think it's a great thing for him to be out here."

Saturday was also the eve ahead of a personal highlight for Gostkowski's career - after their big win last season.

"Until the season starts, and until we probably start getting yelled at for talking about the Super Bowl too much, it's always good to revisit it," Gostkowski told NH1 News. "We get our rings tomorrow night, so it's a pretty special weekend."
