NEWPORT (AP) — A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to serve seven to 15 years in state prison after pleading guilty to shaking his 5-month-old son.
The Valley News reports 26-year-old Jerry Carrier admitted in Sullivan County Superior Court to shaking his infant son twice in January, in Newport and Charlestown. Police say he became frustrated when the child would not stop crying as he played video games.
Carrier apologized on Tuesday and says he suffers from bipolar disorder.
Prosecutors say the child suffered severe internal injuries to his liver, retinal hemorrhages and a subdural hematoma.
They say Carrier initially avoided telling hospital caregivers how his son received the injuries fearing he would be arrested.
