Newmarket mother being monitored after police say she tried to drown her child

NEWMARKET - A mother charged with child endangerment last month is being monitored by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s office.

Candice Griffith, 31, is accused of throwing a child into a full bathtub and attempting to push the child under the water, according to police.

She has pleaded not guilty to the charge of child endangerment and, according to court documents, says she has mental health issues.

When police responded to her Gordon Avenue address, they say they found two of her children across the street, apparently afraid of their mother. Griffith is out on bail and is wearing a monitoring bracelet, police said.

She is to have no contact with her four children, including two 14-month old toddlers, who are no longer in her care.
