Newmarket man to plead insanity in infant son's beating
BRENTWOOD – Jose Orta Santana will likely plead insanity on the charges that he fractured his infant son’s skull and broke several other of the baby’s bones.
According to Seacoast Online, Orta-Santana is facing 18 counts of assault and domestic violence.
In March, a three month old was brought to Exeter Hospital by Orta-Santana and treated at Boston Children’s Hospital for serious injuries.
Orta-Santana initially said he was holding the infant when he slipped on a cloth rap, causing the baby's head to get bumped.
Later in an interview with Newmarket police, Orta-Santana told police he hit the infant and punched the infant three times in the head.
The baby has two skull fractures, bruising on the ride side of his head and fractures to the ribs and other parts of the body.
