New York Times gives Trump 95 percent chance to win US presidency

There has been a seismic shift in presidential election odds over the course of the night.

Conventional wisdom and mathematical odds were confident in Hillary Clinton's chances of victory, according to the New York Times live projections. They put her chances at 80 percent as voters came home from the polls.

However, the red and blue projection lines swerved, merged and swapped on the charts as state after state went to Donald Trump.

The odds now stand at a 95 percent chance of Trump winning.

Clinton still has a path to victory, and a number of states and precincts have not yet reported.

Regardless, the nation is watching a race that has already been far closer than it was ever supposed to be.
