New park and playground to open in Amherst in memory of 9-year-old boy

AMHERST - Town officials and community leaders are working to bring a new park and playground to Amherst in memory of a 9-year-old boy.

Joshua Savyon is very much missed by his classmates and the residents of Amherst, after he was murdered two years ago.

According to the Union Leader, Joshua's mother - Becky Ranes and community members have started a project to bring a new park and playground to Amherst which will honor Joshua as a well-loved and missed member of the community.

For the project, Ranes was connected with the Amherst Land Trust and a 4-acre lot on Courthouse Road became available.

To date, more than $337,000 has been raised for the project, according to the paper. Organizers still need about $60,000 to reach their goal with the overall cost projected at $400,000.

In hopes of more donations, organizers are planning to open the playground in June.
