Isaiah Blais was awarded the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Award of Excellence in Fire & Life Safety at the New Ipswich Fire Department on Wednesday evening.

The award recognizes students that do an outstanding act in the area of fire and life safety that benefits the lives and well-being of those around them.

Back on May 25 at about 3:55 a.m., the young Blais woke up to the smell of smoke, the sound of smoke alarms and the sight of flames from the garage. He used quick-thinking to wake his sleeping parents and brother, allowing them time to exit the home and call 911.

Authorities say that if it were not for Blais’s fast action, the outcome could have been much worse.
