New Hampton FD mourning the loss of a fallen firefighter

NEW HAMPTON - The fire department is mourning the loss of a fellow firefighter who died on the job yesterday.

Fire Chief Michael Drake confirmed the death of one of his firefighters and said more information would be coming later today. He said the department was not responding to a call when it happened.

The New Hampton Firefighters Association posted a photo of a firefighter's coat and boots on the front bumper of a fire truck. The name on the jacket is that of Doug Clement. Several people on the association's Facebook page wrote "RIP Doug Clement."

Drake did say he would be meeting with the state Fire Marshal's office today, the agency which determines whether the death of a firefighter occurred while in the line of duty.

Drake said New Hampton has a roster of 30 firefighters. Drake said a fund to help the family with funeral expenses will likely be set up through the New Hampshire Firefighters Association.
