Stay Safe and STD Free: These States Are the Safest for Online Dating
Online dating can be scary.
You never quite know who's behind the screen, and then, once you meet in person, you hope that person's not a criminal (or, gasp, running around with STDs).
If you recently met someone online and finally built up the courage to go on a date this Valentine’s Day, Safewise and HighSpeedInternet.com partnered to let you to know how your state ranks among the safest and most dangerous for online dating.
The rankings were developed by using the most-recent stats on violent crime, cybercrime, gonorrhea and chlamydia comparing them to population estimates. If you intend to date online in only the safest states, here's where you should move.
- New Hampshire
Each of these states were also the Top 5 safest states from last year but Idaho and Utah switched spots due to a chlamydia outbreak in Utah.
When it comes to STD rates per capita, these five states have the lowest:
- New Hampshire
- West Virginia
As for the most dangerous states for online dating, the results have changed from last year’s study.
The Top 5 dangerous states for 2018 are:
- New Mexico
Alaska remains the most dangerous state and SafeWise and HighSpeedInternet.com also released which states have the highest online romance/confidence fraud per capita.
The following states have the highest online romance/confidence fraud per capita:
If plan on finding love in these states, make sure you keep an eye out for catfishing (when a person pretends to be someone else online) and never give out too much personal information.
With Valentine’s Day approaching be aware of these rankings and always protect yourself.
Online dating and meeting new people can be fun, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
