NH Hiker Dies on White Mountains Trail
LINCOLN—A New Hampshire man died while hiking in the White Mountains Wednesday.
New Hampshire Fish and Game reported that Stephen Barsanti, 67, of Alton was hiking with his wife on the Fishin' Jimmy trail about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday when he collapsed on the trail about a half mile from the Lonesome Lake Appalachian Mountain Club hut.
Barsanti's wife, the only person with him at the time, began CPR. Two other hikers came upon them, and one went to the AMC hut for help. Hut personnel hiked to Barsanti and assisted with CPR but officials say he died on the scene.
Volunteers from the Pemigewassett Valley Search and Rescue Team and other volunteers assisted in carrying Barsanti's body to the trailhead. The incident is still under investigation but the evidence at this time suggests that Barsanti's death was due to a medical condition.
NHFG say it is undetermined at this time if an autopsy will be performed.
