Missing man found dead after ATV rolls near NH park
WINCHESTER — A man who had been reported missing Sunday has been found dead.
Lt. Bill Boudreau of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Monday that about 25 people from area fire and police departments have joined NHFG to look for Daniel Gill, 77, of Tewksbury, Mass., who began his ride about 9 a.m. Sunday but hasn't been heard from since about 11:30 a.m. that day.
After searching through the night, search crews found Daniel Gill, 77, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, at 10:02 a.m. just outside of Pisgah State Park in Winchester. The state Medical Examiner’s Office has been notified. Gill had been riding alone when his ATV rolled attempting to navigate a difficult/steep section of trail.
Gill was wearing appropriate riding gear including a helmet and eye protection at the time of the crash and neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by Fish and Game.
Conservation Officers were assisted by members of the Winchester, Hinsdale, Chesterfield and Swanzey police and fire departments, as well as The Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, and members of Rescue Inc.
Fish and Game officials are reminding OHRV riders not to ride alone, to know your riding abilities, and when possible, always leave an itinerary with friends or family.
