Injured NH Man Spends the Night in the Woods Before Being Discovered
MONT VERNON— A Nashua man spent the night in the woods in Mont Vernon after a weekend hiking mishap.
New Hampshire Fish and Game reported that Sandeep Mishra, 30, of Nashua fell while hiking in the Purgatory Falls Recreation Area Saturday night about 8 p.m.
Another hiker, Gary Noel, of Dracut, Massachusetts, found Mishra, who had no hiking supplies or cellphone with him, about 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
"Fortunately for him it was a mild evening," said New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officer Sgt. Delayne Brown on Monday.
Rescuers from Amherst, Milford, Mont Vernon and Fish and Game carried Mishra about 1,500 feet through the woods to a cul-de-sac on Dow Road rather than hike the longer distance along a trail, Brown said.
Mishra was taken to a local hospital following the incident, he said.
