Hooked on Fundraising: Annual Derby Reels in Catches and Cash
It was a great weekend of ice fishing in New Hampshire despite a rainy second day of the 39th annual Great Meredith Rotary Fishing Derby on Saturday and Sunday.
The big winners were all from New Hampshire!
Douglas Shanahan, of Laconia, took the top prize of $15,000, followed by Judith Desmarais, of Derry, with $5,000, and Derek Wescott, of Webster, came in third, winning $3,000. The Meredith Rotary Club also holds two $5,000 cash drawings as part of the winning, and those were won by Jack Martin, of Center Harbor, and Jacob Marinel, of Wolfeboro.
New this year was an extra drawing for a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida for four, including airfare, meals and accommodations, from Penny Pitou Travel in Laconia, and that went to Gary Wilson, of Milton. Over 4,600 people bought tickets for this year's derby, and organizers were excited by the ice conditions that greeted anglers. Monies raised go to help the Meredith Rotary Club and their service to the local community.
