MANCHESTER—The state fire marshal's office and city fire prevention department are continuing the investigation into the early Monday morning blaze.
Firefighters were alerted to the fire at 137 Hazelton Court about 1:34 Monday morning by a neighbor who saw heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the home, located in the southern part of the Queen City. Crews had a difficult time moving through the home due to "a hoarding condition which made searching the premises of the building very difficult for firefighters," according to District Chief Al Poulin.
The victim, a 58-year-old man, was located in the home's kitchen. He was taken to the Elliot Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The fire had spread throughout the first floor of the home before crews were able to bring the fire under control about 3 a.m.
The name of the victim has not been released. The building was considered a total loss.
