Fire Rips Into Manchester Apartment Building

MANCHESTER- Three people, including two firefighters, were treated for injuries as a fire ripped into an apartment building in Manchester Thursday night.
Calls came in to Manchester Fire Department reporting a blaze at 165 W. Hancock Street shortly after 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Firefighters arrived to flames engulfing 3-stories of two sides of a 6-family apartment building.
Most of the occupants had fled the building but firefighters had to help several out of the burning home. Firefighters also rescued several pets, including four dogs and a rabbit.
The occupant who was transported to Catholic Medical Center to be evaluated. The person's condition is unkown.
A fire officer at the scene Thursday night said one firefighter was burned while searching for victims inside the home. The firefighter's condition is also unknown at this time.
Fire crews had to contend with balloon-styile construction used in the older home, which allowed fire to move from lower floors up into the upper areas.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
