New Hampshire moose hunting permits fetch $28,002

The Associated Press

CONCORD — An auction for two coveted moose hunting permits in New Hampshire raised just over $28,000 for the state's Wildlife Heritage Foundation.

Only two permits were available to auction this year because ticks have taken a toll on the moose population. Altogether, there were six bidders from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Texas, and each of the top bids was $14,001.

The auction is the primary fundraiser for the foundation, a non-profit partner of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department that supports wildlife, conservation, education and outdoor programs.

The state's moose hunt season runs from Oct. 17-25.
