New England ranked highest in substance use
Recent data shows that the country is diverse in the consumption of substances, according to the Valley News.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration surveys Americans annually about their substance use habits, including opioid painkillers, marijuana, alcohol and cocaine. States are ranked based on population uses of each substance, creating a top 10 list.
New England has a noticeably heavy use. None of the New England States have the highest consumption of prescription painkillers, but Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are the leading consumers of alcohol, marijuana and cocaine.
