New England man attempting 'suicide by cop' subdued without fatality
PEPPERELL, Mass. — Police subdued a suicidal man who was actively trying to get shot by police early on Sunday.
Reports came in of a disturbance at a Jersey Street residence caused by a man who had gone home from the hospital before he had been discharged.
Officers were told that the man had fled on foot, he was armed with a knife, and he wanted to get police officers to shoot him.
The suspect was found with the help of off-duty officers, K-9 units, and the Groton and Dunstable police departments.
Officers found the knife on his person, but he never threatened to use it on officers.
The male subject was taken to a hospital for mental health evaluation.
