New England man admits to using drugs in car before wreck with daughter

SOMERSET, MASS.- A Massachusetts man is facing charges after police say he admitted to using drugs prior to driving a car, with his 6-year-old daughter, into a tractor trailer truck.

According to the Providence Journal, police say Matthew Leonardo, 30 of Somerset, Mass., was driving when he ran a red light and crashed his car into the truck Friday on Route 6.

Rescuers at first were unsure what injuries the girl suffered from, and if she was wearing a seat belt. Both Leonardo and the girl were taken to hospitals for treatment. The tractor tailer driver was uninjured.

Police say drug paraphernalia was found inside the car and Leonardo admitted to taking drugs inside of the vehicle.

The truck driver at first thought he blew a tire, then realized he had been hit by a car, which he dragged over 500 feet before stopping.

The accident is under investigation.
