New campground owner vows to rebuild reputation

EPSOM - The new owner of a rundown New Hampshire campground is vowing to rebuild facilities - and respect.

Sonny Sell, who purchased the Circle 9 Ranch campground about three weeks ago, said he has invested about $30,000 so far into restoring electricity and water to all of the campsites.

"We're going to try to get the thing back to where it used to be years ago," Sell said. "It has a bad reputation now, and we're going to try to change that reputation. It's probably going to take me awhile to do that."

Sell said the campground used to be a hot spot for country music lovers, offering locals square dancing and live music on weekends at an old music hall with a checkered floor.

He has started offering dances again and said about 60 people attended the most recent event.

The campground faced foreclosure after a former owner failed to pay property taxes.

Year-round residents were unsure of the campgrounds future until Sell made the purchase.

Sell said the campground is open to those who want to tent or bring an RV, and he hopes bike and race weekends will attract business.

He also said he plans to reopen the pool next weekend and will be building a new game room.

Sell said he will also invest another $30,000 to redo the kitchen inside the music hall.
