Netanyahu vows harsh response to synagogue attack

The Associated Press

JERUSALEM (AP) The Israeli prime minister says Israel will "respond harshly" to a deadly attack on a Jerusalem synagogue.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Tuesday's attack a "cruel murder of Jews who came to pray and were killed by despicable murderers."

Two Palestinian assailants stormed the synagogue in Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox Har Nof neighborhood and attacked worshippers with knives, axes and guns before they were killed in a shootout with police.

Netanyahu blamed the violence on incitement by the Islamic militant Hamas and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. He said the international community ignores the incitement.

His statement did not elaborate.
