All the Good Sports: The Bold Move the Sox Need to Make Now
You know what scares me? The Red Sox are on their way to over 100 wins yet it’s totally possible that they could wind up playing just one post season game.
Should they finish second to the Yankees in the A.L. East and have to play a Wild Card game against... let’s say Seattle and lose... that’s it! Season over!
Let’s be real... the Red Sox farm system is in tatters. Mookie Betts is in line to be a 40-million dollar a year player, perhaps somewhere else.
You know what that means. The future is NOW!
The Sox have a grand total of one playoff win since 2013. A move must be made to make this lineup better. The answer: trade Rafael Devers to Baltimore for impending free agent Manny Machado for the remainder of the season and take your chances. The Sox can put the right handed hitting Machado at third base every day. He’s well on his way to a fourth consecutive 30 plus home run season and just maybe an American League MVP Award.
And who knows? The 25-year-old Machado just may like Fenway and and want call it home for the next six or seven years.
