National drug czar to meet with Gov. Hassan, Nashua mayor

The Associated Press

NASHUA (AP) — The nation's drug "czar" is visiting New Hampshire on Monday for a roundtable in Nashua on the state's heroin and opioid crisis and a walking tour of Manchester with its police chief and city officials.

Michael Botticelli has been director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy since February. Botticelli, of Malden, Massachusetts, helped launch a program that expanded treatment and recovery opportunities at local community health centers and has also focused on prevention. He has spoken publicly about his struggle with alcohol abuse and 1988 arrest for drunken driving, which resulted in his being handcuffed to a hospital bed.

Gov. Maggie Hassan and Botticelli will be joined for the roundtable by Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau; Nashua Police Chief Andrew Lavoie; and others.
