NASHUA - A woman from Nashua is charged with assaulting a 7-week-old boy.
Police arrested Ashley Smith, 20, of 79 Almont St., around 11 p.m. Friday.
Smith was charged with one count of first-degree assault - domestic violence, a class A felony.
Police said the investigation began Friday when the Nashua Police Department's Special Investigations Division was told that a 7-week-old boy was hospitalized with non-accidental serious injuries.
The Special Investigations Divisiondetermined that Smith had assaulted the juvenile male, who was known to her, and caused the injuries, police said. The injuries to the child are not considered life-threatening.
Smith was being held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections on $10,000 bail, and was arraigned at Nashua district court Monday.
A class A felony is punishable by up to 15 years in state prison.
