Nashua woman airlifted after SUV hits tree, driver charged with DWI
MERRIMACK - Police closed down a section of the Everett Turnpike early Sunday morning to airlift a Nashua woman who'd been injured when the SUV she was riding in crashed into a tree.
Tara Michaud, 41, of Nashua, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated before being flown to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston with non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV, Craig A. Michaud, 41, also of Nashua, was not injured, however he was charged with aggravated felony driving while intoxicated.
Police say the Ford Explorer was heading south on the turnpike in Merrimack when it went off the road and hit a tree.
The accident was reported shortly after 2 a.m. and the highway was closed in both directions for about half an hour to allow for the helicopter to land. The southbound side remained closed for another 45 minutes as the scene was cleared.
The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Jacob Wood at 223-4381.
