NASA is creating a program similar to Armageddon

NASA has launched a new program similar to the movie, Armageddon, but don't except to see Bruce Willis.

Like the movie, NASA's new program is designed to detect potentially hazardous objects which could threaten life on earth, according to the Huffington Post.

And they call is planetary defense coordination office, which can detect and track asteroids and comets passing close to earth.

Information about potential impact timing, locations and effects will be provided.

So, how exactly is NASA doing this? The program will use ground based telescopes around the world, as well as infrared telescopes on earth.

While there are no known impacts threats at this time, recent impacts and close approaches remind us of why we need to remain vigilant and keep our eyes on the sky.
