Mysterious Town Hall Mural

The Associated Press

HARTFORD, Vt. — Officials in an eastern Vermont town are asking for the public's help in identifying people in black and white photos featured on a new town hall mural.

The Valley News reports the wall-length mural is located in a first-floor meeting room of the recently renovated town hall in Hartford, near the New Hampshire border. It was created from photos taken by Collamer Abbott in the 1950s, when he worked as a photographer for the Valley News and other publications. Abbott died in 2012.

Town officials say they chose pictures that represent family life, farming and agriculture in Hartford's villages.

But the names of some of the featured residents remain unknown. Town officials are seeking help in identifying some of the children and three farmers depicted in the mural.
