Moultonborough residents don't like design for proposed community center
MOULTONBOROUGH - Plans for a $6.4 million community center on land next to the Moultonborough Academy met with criticism from residents who gathered to hear from the architect last week.
According to the Laconia Citizen, the design is roughly 20,000 square feet and includes a gymnasium, activity space and room for the town recreation department offices.
Many felt the modern exterior was a poor fit for the historic village center and proposed instead a traditional New England barn design to house a small gym while renovating existing space for offices.
Others questioned whether a community center was really needed and raised concerns about the potential tax impact.
There will be another informational session regarding the proposed community center on Jan. 28 at the Town Hall.
