Motorcyclist may have severed his foot in Salem crash, police say

SALEM - A Connecticut man may have severed his foot after losing control of his motorcycle while turning from Shadow Lake Road to Harris Avenue just before noon.

Police say George Stanley, 25, of Vernon, Conn., was taken to Lawrence General Hospital and was scheduled to be flown by helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. No further information was available about his condition.

Police say they received several 911 calls about a serious motorcycle accident, with several callers saying the injured man may have severed his foot. Police did confirm the foot injury. Stanley had been driving a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was traveling east on Shadow Lake when he lost control turning left onto Harris Avenue, police said.

Shadow Lake Road was closed for several hours Saturday afternoon as police conducted their investigation.
