Mother fights heroin epidemic with Facebook picture of children in front of dead dad in casket

CONCORD – With the heroin epidemic tearing through New Hampshire, it's also ruining lives throughout the nation.

One mother took a different approach to combating addiction.

Eva Holland had known Mike for 11 years and the couple had two children together.

On September 2, Mike died from a heroin overdose.

While in mourning, Eva posted a photo to Facebook of herself and her children next to their deceased father.

In the caption, she told the world about Mike’s history with addiction and his efforts to get clean.

“He loved us all so much he decided enough was enough and went to rehab at the end of last year. He got out right before Christmas as a brand new man,” the post said.

Mike went to rehab but relapsed last year after taking a pain killer for a tooth ache – which led him back to his heroin addiction.

Eva acknowledged the post may offend some people, but said, “hiding the facts is only going to keep this epidemic going.”

Although Eva and her children are getting through the loss of a father, she hopes to inspire others to “choose recovery every single day.”
