Military dad surprises daughter at Bedford graduation practice
BEDFORD - A big surprise made a special event that much more memorable for one New Hampshire high school graduate.
Grace Munson said, "I had absolutely no idea. I don't know how I didn't catch on."
As Grace attended Bedford High's graduation practice last week she had no idea her father, New Hampshire Army National Guardsman George Munson, had secretly flown home from Kuwait. He was hiding behind the scenes waiting for his cue.
Grace said, "At the end of the song the assistant principal announced it to everyone, and I saw my dad walking down."
"The choir sings the song "Finding My Way Back Home.' He said speaking of finding your way back home, we have George Munson from Kuwait," said Grace's mother, Ginger Munson.
Ginger worked for weeks orchestrating the big surprise, and safely guarding the huge secret from everyone.
Ginger said, "I was getting excited to see it all unfold, but then I though I don't know if I can do this much longer, kind of, keep up the facade."
On his third tour, Chief Warrant Officer Munson left for Kuwait last October and wasn't scheduled to come back home until July.
Grace said, "At the beginning of the year I wasn't that upset about it because it's just high school graduation. he'll be here for college graduation."
She didn't have to wait for college. The very next day the entire family, father, mother, brothers, sister and grandparents, together watched Grace walk at graduation.
