Merrimack Valley School District says it's now compliant with NH election laws

The Associated Press

PENACOOK (AP) — The chairman of the Merrimack Valley School Board says the district is now complying with state election laws after authorities said it had violated the laws for decades.

The state Attorney General's Office said last year that court documents showed the school district's polling hours didn't satisfy the minimum requirement.

Cease and desist letters sent in August ordered the district to comply with state-mandated polling hours of at least 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Concord Monitor reports Board Chairman Mark Hutchins says the polling for this year's district meeting at Merrimack Valley High School will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Hutchins says a moderator will be elected by ballot vote instead of from the floor to comply with the law.
