Merrimack residents urged to keep small pets inside after increased coyote sightings

MERRIMACK - Several coyote sightings, including a report of an attack on a homeowner's chickens, have prompted officials near Wildcat Falls to advise residents on ways to keep the animals from venturing into front yards.

Merrimack police are asking residents to keep small pets inside at night, place secure lids on trash cans and remove fallen fruit from yards in an effort to keep the coyotes away.

Possible sightings have been reported in recent weeks on Rutherford Street and Bancroft Street.

The predators are typically 40 pounds and although attacks on humans are rare, they do pose a threat to domestic animals.
