Merrimack fire and police departments throw birthday party for autistic boy

MERRIMACK - Members of the Merrimack Fire/Rescue and Police Department are getting praised for a birthday party they threw for an autistic boy named Austin.

Delilah Mendrala, Austin's mother, posted a big thank you on Facebook to the departments in making it "the best day ever" for the little boy.

She said her son was not having a great summer because no one was inviting his anywhere due to his mental disability.

The departments caught wind of this and threw him the party where they allowed him to climb in the vehicles, talk on the loud speaker and played with him on the playground, according to the Merrimack Police Department's Facebook post.

Community members have shared and commented on the post hundreds of times.
