Merrimack County officers will grow out their beards in support of abuse victims
Police officers from Merrimack County are growing out their beards this month to raise money for the Merrimack County Advocacy Center (MCAC).
MCAC supports abuse victims in the early stages of a criminal investigation by offering forensic interview services and connecting victims and their families to community resources.
Police Chief Kevin Wyman of Boscawen Police Department said he'll be participating in the Beards for Bucks challenge and waived the department's policy barring facial hair for the cause.
Chiefs from Allenstown, Boscawen, Bradford, Epsom and the Superintendent from the Merrimack County Department of Corrections will have participating officers carrying cards that explain the fundraiser to members of the public who question their 5 o'clock shadows or goatees.
Officers participating in the challenge contribute a minimum of $30 towards the cause, and community members can sponsor specific officers or the department through the MCAC website.
“This has been an amazing campaign. Our officers and staff from the PDs are really getting into it. They are able to do something fun, be supported in their work, and share their passion for our mission of supporting victims of crime,” said Bethany Cottrell, Executive Director of the MCAC.
