Mass. skier goes missing on Cannon Mountain, found dead Sunday morning off trail

FRANCONIA - A Massachusetts skier was found dead in the woods off the Upper Ravine Trail at Cannon Mountain after an overnight search.

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Trevor Hennessey of Holden, Mass.

According to the NH Fish and Game Department, police were notified that a skier was overdue on Saturday and his car was located in a parking lot. Cannon's ski patrol, ski groomers, Franconia police and state conservation officers initiated a search through the night.

At daybreak, volunteers from the Pemi Valley Search and Rescue along with the police continued a search of trails and located the skier around 8 a.m..

Officials say it appears Hennessey veered off the Upper Ravine Trail into a wooded area and subsequently died of his injuries.

Skier are advised to beware of changing snow conditions given the weather.
