Mass. police officer shot, killed while on duty this morning
AUBURN, Mass. - An Auburn police officer was rushed to the hospital after getting shot early this morning and sources tell Fox25 the officer has died.
Massachusetts State Police say in a statement that an Auburn police officer was shot at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. However, Massachusetts State Police and Auburn police haven't released many other releasing many details.
State police said the suspect was already gone when they arrived at the intersection of Rochdale Street and Zabelle Avenue.
However, when FOX25's Stephanie Coueignoux asked State Police if they were searching for a suspect, they declined to comment.
Police say the alleged shooter apparently drove off in a vehicle.
The officer was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
Auburn is about 45 miles southwest of Boston.
The shooting comes a week after two police officers were shot in Manchester. The two officers sustained non-life threatening injuries and are out of the hospital.
