Marijuana found in Exeter High School student's backpack as part of annual drug sweep

EXETER – Authorities found marijuana in one Exeter High School student’s backpack during a school drug sweep Monday morning.

As part of the annual drug sweep operation, the Exeter police conduct a proactive search to combat illegal drug use with officers and K-9 units from Rochester, Keene, Gilford and Northwood.

On Monday, officers searched locker rooms, certain classrooms, all common areas and backpacks.

Only one student has illegal drugs and school officials said they will handle the disciplinary actions internally.

No charges were filed.
