CONCORD - Sen. Marco Rubio ran a tight race in Iowa with Republican rivals Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
The day before the First-in-the-Nation Primary, Rubio was in New Hampshire, hoping to improve on his 3rd place Iowa finish.
“I’m going to flip a coin," joked Steven Ordway of Nashua. "Heads it’ll be Trump, tails it’ll be Rubio.”
Ordway wasn't the only undecided voter in the Granite State on Monday.
“I’m still down to maybe two, or three, so I’m trying to make up my mind,” said Barbara O’Brien of Manchester.
Rubio swooped in on Monday hoping to shake hands and shake out any uncertainties of supporters at the Puritan Backroom Manchester, which was packed with lunchtime customers and voters who he hoped to sway in favor.
“He is in my top one and two,” Ordway said.
“It’s between him and maybe one of the governors, maybe Kasich or Christie,” said O’Brien.
Monday’s pivotal lunch pit stop - with the Rubio family in tow - was just one of seven events Rubio planned for his last day.
Many wondered if he was possibly attempting to bounce back from Saturday’s debate, considered a poor performance by many national pundits.
“I wouldn’t say he got tossed around, but he didn’t do as well as he did in the other two debates," Ordway said. "I mean he did OK - he’s a pretty smart kid.”
Voters definitely seemed to have watched and some said Gov. Chris Christie seemed to catch Rubio off guard in the debate.
“After I saw that question I was like ‘geez I’m still hedging,’ ” O’Brien said.
But not everyone thought he did so bad.
“I was very very impressed," said Dorothy Whittaker of Nashua. "I’ve always been impressed with his knowledge.”
Lots of voters did mention that as long as their driveways are plowed after Monday’s snowfall, they’ll be out to vote.
Rubio’s final pitch to New Hampshire's undecided voters is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Nashua Community College.
