Manchester woman charged with possession of crack cocaine

MANCHESTER - A traffic stop near Bridge and Elm streets led to the arrest of a Manchester woman on charges of possessing crack cocaine.

Erica Murphy, 32, of Manchester, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled drug on Wednesday.

Police say they stopped the car around 5:40 p.m. because of "defective equipment," and an officer saw a clear plastic bag protruding from under her leg. Police say it turned out to be an empty, but it raised the question of whether she'd been using it to transport drugs. Police got permission to search the car, where they allegedly found several small rocks of crack cocaine, empty plastic bags, a digital scale and glass cylinder on the floor under the driver's seat.

Police say they also found a small quantity of heroin inside Murphy's purse. She was scheduled to be arraigned in the 9th Circuit Court of Manchester on Thursday.

A passenger in the car was released at the scene and was not charged in the incident.
