Manchester West student found with handgun, drugs in school


MANCHESTER — A high school student at Manchester High School West was found to be in possession of an unloaded handgun, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and other stolen property while at the school on Thursday.

Manchester SRO Det. Kevin Bernard and Principal Rick Dichard interviewed the student accused of having those items after receiving a tip from a concerned student, the Manchester School District announced.

The accused student confessed to having the items, which were located in the student's backpack. The handgun was checked and secured by Det. Bernard.

The student was said to have been cooperative during the incident. The school district also announced that at no time were students or staff at risk.

The student will be facing multiple charges as well as disciplinary action from the school district.

The identity of the student will not be released since the student in question is a juvenile.
