Manchester School District looking into transgender-inclusive health-benefits, too
MANCHESTER — City school administrators are looking at possibly offering transgender-inclusive health-care benefits to school district employees after alderman approved transgender health benefits to municipal employees and their families.
On Oct. 18 Alderman voted 10-2 in favor of offering transgender-inclusive health-care benefits - such as sex change surgery - to municipal employees and their families that would be covered under city health insurance plans starting July 1.
Anthem has announced it will remove the exclusion for gender identity disorders and sex change surgery from its coverage offerings, on both fully and self-insured plans, come Jan. 1, 2017, in accordance with ACA Section 1557, nondiscriminatory provisions of the Affordable Care Act, according to the Union Leader.
Superintendent Dr. Bolgen Vargas said he is working with Pam Hogan, Human Resources Director for city schools, to determine what cost would be on the school side of the budget to add transgender health benefits.
