MANCHESTER - Queen City leaders are excited about the results of a new survey that says New Hampshire’s biggest city ranks No. 1 in the country for being small business friendly.
Alpha Loft is just one of the many small business that line Elm Street in Manchester.
“It’s just really a vibrant place and a vibrant community,” said Mike Cashion, Alpha Loft, Operations Manager.
Cashion said Alpha Loft fits in perfectly with Manchester’s growing business community.
“At Alpha Loft we incubate and accelerate early stage startups,” he said.
He also said he’s not surprised that the Queen City is tops in the country.
“I like to think that we’re very much open arms and trying to pull is as many people that have great ideas and opportunities for businesses here,” Cashion said.
The study - based on research from 18,000 small business owners across the country - was just released on Thumbtack.com.
Manchester earned an A+ in overall friendliness, ease of starting a business, tax code and for licensing.
It’s this group of straight A’s that landed Manchester over larger cities like Dallas, Richmond, Austin, and Knoxville.
“It’s great news for the city of Manchester, being recognized nationally as the number one city in the country for small business to come in and start,” Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas said.
Gatsas credits initiatives like the Small Business Assistance Program for the ranking.
The program offers low interest loans to small businesses in need.
“Making it easy for small business which is the backbone of this city," he said. "To come in and start a business - let’s make it easier for them."
Cashion said he is confident that continued and expanded support from the city - and rankings like this one - will help further drive economic development in Manchester.
“We have some really exciting and fun things happening here,” he said.
Speaking of topping the ranks, Manchester also recently nabbed the No. 1 spot on Forbe’s list of best cheap cities.
