Manchester police make one arrest at drug 'hot spot' near Union and Myrtle streets

MANCHESTER - Police who saw two men huddled together in an area near Union and Myrtle streets known as South Alley - a designated drug "hot spot" - were stopped by police Thursday night, and one of the men was ultimately arrested for resisting detention.

Police say they approached the two men in their police car around 5:30, and one of the men walked away despite being ordered to stop. Police talked to the first man and identified him as Jeffrey Williams, 43, of Penacook. The second man walked away towards a dumpster and threw away a beer can before returning to talk to police.

Anthony Alderete, 44, of Manchester, was charged with resisting detention and police say a subsequent search led to the discovery of 1.2 grams of heroin, a needle and a cotton ball saturated with heroin.

Alderete was released on bail and is set to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on Nov. 19.

Williams was not charged.
