Manchester officials recover body of homeless man from Merrimack River

MANCHESTER - The body of a man who tried to swim across the Merrimack River on Monday was recovered Tuesday afternoon.

Manchester police responded Monday to the Queen City Bridge for a report of a "possible jumper," but learned when they arrived the man had tried to swim across the quick current of the river.

Officials began searching the river using dive teams, boats and helicopters, but the search was put on hold and resumed again Tuesday.

The N.H. Marine Patrol were able to recover a man’s body Tuesday afternoon at about 3 p.m.

The body was located about 50 yards south of the Queen City Bridge.

The man’s identity will not be released until his next of kin has been notified.
