Manchester Monarchs ready for the first round of playoffs

MANCHESTER - Playing in the ECHL, and being part of a farm-league system means that with call-ups and injuries the lineup is constantly changing. For the Manchester Monarchs, the core group noticed something different.

"It's a weird feeling," Monarchs player Gasper Kopitar said. "Ever since we got together this year, we just kind of felt like we gelled together."

The gel has lasted 72 games. The Monarchs finished the season at the top of their division earning home ice advantage in the playoffs. Gasper Kopitar had one of the best seasons, and when asked how this group compares to his former teams, he said "it's not comparable at all."

In a NH1 News feature "Beyond the Bench" last month, we showed the pre-game magic inside of the lockerroom

A clip from NH1's "Beyond the Bench" feature last month that went viral, showed the pre-game magic inside of the locker room before one of their games. The video reached fans all the way in Los Angeles, Calif. and the Monarch's NHL affiliate.

"I think they're just happy to see what happens before a game," Kopitar said. "That it's not just all business all the time, it's good to see people reacted well to it."

Kopitar said the team started the roll-call half way through the season. Each game gets a look at the lineup to brainstorm ideas ahead of the impov.

Kopitar said the team will keep that tradition in the playoffs combining the new with the old - beloved playoff beards. The Monarchs face the Adirondack Thunder in round one in a best-of-seven series.
