Manchester mom wanted in connection with baby's death on the run, failed to appear in court
MANCHESTER - Law enforcement has been unable to locate a mother who failed to appear in court for a hearing in connection with the death of her newborn daughter.
An arrest warrant was issued for Stephanie Camelo on April 13 after she didn't appear.
Her apartment was the scene of the October investigation into the death of a newborn, who was later identified as Camelo’s youngest daughter.
Camelo was arrested at the end of March on child endangerment charges.
The state asked for a $10,000 cash bail in fear that she would flee. Only after Camelo said it would be impossible for her to hold a job and keep her apartment, the judge reduced bail to $2,000 cash or surety.
Neighbors also previously expressed concern after hearing the bail amount.
"Honestly the state dropped the ball on this one," an angry neighbor told NH1 News. "Now they want to sit there and only give her $2,000 bail? We got people out here that like what, sell a bag of weed?, and they get more than $2,000 cash bail but she can kill a kid on $2,000?"
The investigation into her whereabouts is ongoing.
