Manchester fugitive caught and charged with 2nd-degree murder

Billy Damuel Maldonado Cancel, the man suspected in the murder of Jonathan Vazquez-Ojeda, has been charged with second degree murder.

U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Billy Damuel Maldonado Cancel on Oct. 14.

Malonado, 23, was alleged to have been involved in an altercation at the intersection of Merrimack and Beech Streets in Manchester on Sept. 14. During this altercation, Maldonado allegedly shot Vazquez-Ojeda, 25, which resulted in his death.

Shortly after the issuance of the arrest warrant for Maldonado, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force was requested to assist in the investigation along with several other agencies.

Malonado was charged as a fugitive from justice by the New Britain Police Department during his arrest, and is currently being held in custody pending his arraignment at Manchester District via video Thursday morning.
